Your CUSTOM surfboard

Want to order a custom made surfboard just for you? To make the DRTYBOARDS board ordering process clearer, this blog will guide you step by step through how your personalized board is made.
To better understand the various surfing terms, we recommend checking out our blog: "From Waves to Dictionary: a beginner's guide to surfing slang"
1. Surfer
Your body specs — height, weight, stance (regular or goofy), and your relentless drive for the perfect wave — play a crucial role in designing your custom board.
Based on these parameters, we can accurately determine key technical aspects of the board, such as:
- The widest point (WP) of the board, which directly affects manoeuvrability and stability;
- The thickness-to-weight ratio, which directly influences the board’s volume and buoyancy.
2. Spot
To help you ride the unique waves of our local Baltic sea more easily, your board needs customised features — volume, rocker, thickness, and outline — slightly different from those shaped for ocean waves.
By knowing your favorite surf spot and the type of wave you usually ride, we can better adjust the rocker profile of your board.
This means your surfing speed will match the wave’s speed more precisely — resulting in longer rides and more joy when catching those Baltic Sea waves!

3. Foam
You’ll be able to choose from three standard surfboard foam blank options:
- Polyurethane (PU)
- Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)
- Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)
Each material has its own pros and cons.
For example, EPS is lighter and offers better buoyancy than PU, but PU boards sit deeper in the water — which, on the other hand, provides a connect-to-water, more pleasant surfing feel.
4. Board type & size
Choosing a surfboard that matches your skill level — that’s already half the battle won!
If you’re just starting out in surfing, it’s especially important to go for a stable board with the right rocker, dimensions tailored to your body proportions, and enough volume. This will help you learn balance more easily, find the correct foot placement, and consciously shift your weight according to the shape of the wave.
If you’re already an experienced rider, the next step in your progression is to gradually reduce your board’s size and volume — helping you push your skills to the next level.

5. Fins
Choosing fins that suit the wave conditions can significantly improve your surfing performance and help you spend more time in the “green” part of the wave!
Very soon, we’ll be releasing a dedicated guide on fins — covering the different types, their performance characteristics, and how to choose the best setup for your board.
6. Design
Together, we’ll create a custom design for your board based on your vision, taking into account elements such as:
- Color tones and tinting
- (FYI: DRTYBOARDS doesn’t use spray paint – almost everything you see on a DRTY board is tinted epoxy);
- Minimalist shapes and line work;
- Personalized logo or text placement;
- And other small details that give your board character and make it truly one-of-a-kind.
7. Mock-up
Once all of the above is clarified, we will prepare:
- A visual mock-up of your board in digital format
- We will confirm this with you
- The agree on the deadline for making the board (it depends on the workshop's workload)
- Finalise the total costs.
The price for a customized DRTY board starts from €595, depending on the boards length, complexity and selected materials.
